With more than 187 participating countries and over 2000 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy or utilize renewable or emission-free sources. Award ceremonies are held all over the world. Prominent personalities as well as Energy Globe Ambassadors in 90 countries support the mission of Energy Globe. The activities of Energy Globe attract worldwide media attention - international TV stations report each year with approximately 1,000 hours of broadcasting time. Gongali Model Co.Ltd has created job opportunities for 190 young people (age 18-30) in Tanzania through low-cost water filters (Nano filter) which process clean and safe water that is sold to surrounding communities at a price that is five times cheaper than the market price. The water is made available to the communities through 60 water stations that are serving more than 23,000 people every day.
Every year 7,000 children die in Tanzania alone due to water-borne diseases and millions of people are suffering from high fluoride level in drinking water. Water pollutants vary geographically because of different human activities and geological formation of soil and rocks.
The adoption of Nanofilter® as water purifying technology will increase access to clean and safe water and consequently reduce waterborne diseases, dental fluorosis, and deaths of children under five. The Nanofilter® produces about 10 litres (20 L for the double system) of clean and safe water in one hour. This technology does not require electricity or pump.
The innovation, which is new in the world, is a low-cost water filter (Nanofilter®) invented in Tanzania. Its adoption is expected to increase access to clean and safe water among underserved communities, thus reduce waterborne diseases and dental fluorosis. With this technology, it is now possible to modify the properties of nanomaterials that are used in Nanofilter® to trap and remove a wide range of “targeted” water contaminants which vary from one geographical area to another
