With more than 187 participating countries and over 2000 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy or utilize renewable or emission-free sources. Award ceremonies are held all over the world. Prominent personalities as well as Energy Globe Ambassadors in 90 countries support the mission of Energy Globe. The activities of Energy Globe attract worldwide media attention - international TV stations report each year with approximately 1,000 hours of broadcasting time. The aim of the Energy Globe is to raise global attention on sustainable, everywhere applicable environmental solutions and to motivate people to also become active in this area.

LEC was invited to conduct an energy savings assessment by John keells group (listed in Colombo stock exchange) for their flag ship 5 star city hotel "Cinnamon Grand Hotel", followed by an energy retrofit proposal. The investment of Rs.170 million (U$ 1.1 million) with a simple payback of 3.4 years was approved. The proposal was to save 3 million kWh or 2100 tons of Green House Gas savings until payback is achieved LEC payback was guaranteed by way of providing Commercial Guarantee from a bank accepted to client at the onset of the project.
Cinnamon Grand (member of John Keells Group) was the largest 5 star hotel (100,000m2), and leading position among all international and national brands in the business city of Colombo. The hotel was award winning property across all disciplines. With, Rs.22 million energy bill per month (U$ 146,000) on the central plant that was 16 years old. The group's sustainability team together with chief engineer of the hotel wanted ways to reduce energy cost.
Project Installation period was agreed upon for 6 months including importing major equipment and further 3 months for fine tuning and installation of state of the art Building Energy Management system. Major equipment such as chillers, pumps and identified pipe work was replaced or modified whilst the hotel was in operation using Australian project management expertise. Project completed in 5 months just in time for Christmas in 2014. Further 3 months for optimization using expertise in energy conservation (which is IP).
LEC successfully completed the first energy retrofit project in Sri Lanka that had a commercial guarantee at the onset of the project, Rs.48 million energy savings per annum. The project was successfully completed project in January 2018. LEC used efficient technologies, best of practice project management and energy retrofit skills. The IP on Energy saving measures to suit application (5 star hotel) was an innovative aspect of the project, to date no one can take such large projects and deliver the same by offering a commercial bank guarantee of the savings outcome
