Renewable energy feeding on to the DC bus is better than A/C bus for telecom power systems. Hence, this effort is to have arrangement for feeding renewable energy sources on to telecom DC bus while feeding excess energy back to the grid, by replacing conventional unidirectional rectifier modules with bidirectional grid tie converter integrating in to current telecom hybrid controllers.
Systems which have Solar PV energy integration directly on to DC bus have lesser paybacks than integrating it in to A/C bus through Grid tie inverter since lesser conversion stages leads to increased efficiency, Hence, it is recommended to go for Solar PV integration on to DC bus rather than integrating for A/C bus with Net Metering. For example, energy exporting tariffs scheme for on grid Telecom.
The solution is to develop bidirectional converter integrating in to their telecom hybrid controllers. It is the only possible way that helps to harvest full power generation of Solar PV system while it is working as the backup power source in case of a grid outages, make these systems more techno economically attractive. These systems can also be capable of controlling active power and reactive power; hence, capable of integration into smart grids.
The stage one is already achieved by keeping Solar PV Panels parallel to Telecom Hybrid Controller and Typical Grid Tie inverter in one of site. Since A/C to DC converter and DC to DC Solar PV MPPT charger controller architecture is slightly modified, there is no significant cost of electronic hardware requirement, since the DSPs are remains same with changed programme and addition of few IGBTs in to the circuits.
