With more than 182 participating countries and over 2000 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy or utilize renewable or emission-free sources. Award ceremonies are held all over the world. Prominent personalities as well as Energy Globe Ambassadors in 90 countries support the mission of Energy Globe. The activities of Energy Globe attract worldwide media attention - international TV stations report each year with approximately 1,000 hours of broadcasting time. The aim of the Energy Globe is to raise global attention on sustainable, everywhere applicable environmental solutions and to motivate people to also become active in this area.

The project involves the integration of hydroponic unit, an aquaponics unit, a pilot plant for wastewater treatment and a composter. Lettuce crop was used throughout the research to compare its yield under different agricultural systems. In this regard, lettuce was planted in hydroponic system and aquaponics system. Conventional cultivation of the same crop was performed using direct irrigation with hydroponic solution, direct water effluent from fish rearing tank and effluent from wastewater treatment plant, in addition to control trial using fresh water and fertilizers.
Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories has consistently weakened Palestine’s agricultural sector. As a result of its annexation of various natural resources, Palestinian farmers have been systematically deprived of arable lands. Occupation imposes severe constraints on the development of the Palestinian agricultural sector and, indeed, the entire economy. It makes the task of achieving sustainable development in the Occupied Palestinian Territory nearly impossible.
The solution is the development of a hydroponics farm for the production of vegetables by growing plants directly in the water with no need of soil. This is dependent on a special nutrient solution added to water feeding plants depending on their need. Solar energy cells are integrated for running the system’s depending on the solar energy. Water is harvested from the rooftop of the green house while waste water is treated at the farm to change water for growing vegetables. In addition, a compost provides fertilizer for the crops.
The nutrient solution, which is the key success for hydroponics is produced at the farm, developed from the local alternatives that we developed and invented our own nutrient solution. The farm is the first of its kind regionally because it mixes most of the good agricultural practices in the same system. Also, we are the first experts in this agricultural field in Palestine and we guide all the concerned people.
