With the Project:
Sustainable housing for families in need
This project was started in co-operation with the German NGO Build&Grow. The vision of the project is to build a sustainable and energy efficient house for families in need in the republic of Moldova. Through cooperation with volunteers the costs of the house can be minimized while building a high quality home.
Moldova is the poorest country in Europe. Many people do not have money to invest into their houses, which prevents them from reducing their energy consumption during winter. Many houses in Moldova are poorly insulated. This causes the energy bills to skyrocket and take up to 2/3rds of the monthly income during wintertime. During this time, houses are cold and damp, creating an unhealthy environment for people, especially children, to live in.
The houses that are built in this project have very high insulation values and greatly reduce the need for heating during the winter season. This does not only reduce the pollution to the environment, but also empowers families in need with more financial independence during the winter season.
Uniqa Wall Systems prepares the build site for a team of volunteers to start with the assembly when the panels are brought. Within 2 days, the panels are assembled into a house, the interior walls are lined with a gypsum board and the windows are installed by a sub-contractor. The facade is outfitted with the final sub-layer for finishing and a plaster layer is applied to make the house look finished. At the end of the 3rd day, the keys are handed over to the beneficiary family and a celebration is held.
