Energy Globe Award

With more than 182 participating countries and over 2000 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy or utilize renewable or emission-free sources. Award ceremonies are held all over the world. Prominent personalities as well as Energy Globe Ambassadors in 90 countries support the mission of Energy Globe. The activities of Energy Globe attract worldwide media attention - international TV stations report each year with approximately 1,000 hours of broadcasting time. The aim of the Energy Globe is to raise global attention on sustainable, everywhere applicable environmental solutions and to motivate people to also become active in this area.

Apparatus for Observation of Fundamental Biomass Reaction

The research paper presents the concept, design and construction of the device for thermogravimetric measurements alongside the results from tests carried out on wood pellets. The main objective of this is to study the characteristics and thermal degradation behavior of wood pellet for biofuel production via gasification technology. These studies are conducted by optimizing on opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of the gasification process of biomass.

Initial situation
According to 2012 World Health Organization (WHO) report, 4.3 million women and children die every year from indoor air pollution due to inhaling smoke from open fire. Household organic waste and animal waste emit a substantial amount of methane gas and are therefore major contributors to climate change. In addition, runoff from waste dumpsites causes massive water contamination.

Solution
The HomeBiogas system converts organic waste to cooking gas and liquid fertilizer. The gas system reduces greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to six tons of carbon dioxide per year. In addition, the HomeBiogas is a sustainable source of energy that significantly helps to reduce organic kitchen waste and animal manure destined for dumping at landfills.

Innovation
The system is supplied as a do-it-yourself kit with detailed assembly and owner manuals. This makes it very easy to guide locals on how to install and maintain the system. The system’s packaging is designed to be as cost effective as possible for both air and sea shipping. The HomeBiogas system, unlike most biogas system, is fitted with high tech gas filter making it a portable and effective energy tool.
