According to the UN, around 3 million children and women die every year in the rural regions of Africa from the exhaust gases that are produced when cooking in or near the huts. The EFIDO project therefore aims to improve health using efficient and inexpensive clay cookers. The clay cookers produce less CO2, less smoke and use less wood. At the same time, women are encouraged to promote such stoves and are given a share of the earnings. The population is also being made aware of the need to plant trees in the villages, which means that there will be sufficient fuel in the natural cycle of the future.
