We proudly present the best environmental projects in the world
The AMIDOUL Foundation from Algeria was recognized for its project "The Sustainable City Of Ksar Tafilelt Tajdit." The sustainable city in Ghardaïa, Algeria, is a groundbreaking model for addressing local challenges in arid regions. The AMIDOUL Foundation successfully created almost a thousand houses and a 6-hectare Eco Park to meet water demand and enhance climate resilience, using local materials and innovative construction methods. The participatory construction process, spanning seventeen years, transformed a rocky area into a sustainable city.
Huawei Electric Power Digitalization was honored for the project "Net Zero Carbon Intelligent Campus" in Richmond, China. The 25.7-acre smart campus focuses on comprehensive energy networks, net-zero carbon energy supply, and cross-border model innovation. This project serves as a benchmark for contributing to carbon neutrality and developing sustainable, smart campuses globally.
The VA TECH WABAG project in Saudi Arabia received recognition for the "Jubail Industrial City - Wastewater Treatment And Water Reclamation Plant." The state-of-the-art wastewater treatment and water reuse plant in Jubail supports the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and sets an example for the successful implementation of advanced technologies.
HELECTOR from Greece was awarded for the "Landfill Gas Power Plant, Mavrorachi Site." The 3.52 MW landfill gas power plant effectively mitigates methane emissions and showcases the global potential of scalable waste-to-energy projects.
The "Beach Buddies" initiative by Incorporated Charity on the Isle of Man was recognized for combating beach pollution through cleanups, recycling, and educational programs. The campaign, covering 100 miles of coastline, aims to inspire global change and emphasizes the power of public engagement in addressing environmental challenges worldwide.
Next Generation Oil from Malaysia was named the overall winner for the "Algae Modular Automated Plantation" project. The A-MAP technology revolutionizes carbon-neutral algae oil production, offering a globally applicable solution with significant socio-economic benefits for Malaysia and potential replication worldwide.
The awards were represented by our partners Kristian Mjøen (United Cities), Ole-Robert Reitan (Reitan Retail), Vidar Pedersen (ENOVA), Wolfgang Stangassinger (Amiblu Holding), Trond Søraas (Sparebank 1 SMN), Lieve Olufsen (UN-Students), and Kent Ranum (Trondheim Municipality). These innovative projects and their creators significantly contribute to global environmental innovation, setting pioneering standards for sustainable practices and environmental protection.
