With more than 187 participating countries and over 2000 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy or utilize renewable or emission-free sources. Award ceremonies are held all over the world. Prominent personalities as well as Energy Globe Ambassadors in 90 countries support the mission of Energy Globe. The activities of Energy Globe attract worldwide media attention - international TV stations report each year with approximately 1,000 hours of broadcasting time. The aim of the Energy Globe is to raise global attention on sustainable, everywhere applicable environmental solutions and to motivate people to also become active in this area.

Selaras Daya Utama has successfully developed three 10 kWp Off-grid Solar Power Plants for three remote and isolated villages in Papua and West Papua. Each of the Solar Power Plant producing more than 50 kWh per day, is able to support a school with more than 200 students and its clinic, catering not only for the students but also the local community. This solution reduces the deforestation and consequently CO2 emissions substantially.
One of the main reasons behind the development challenges in Papua and West Papua is the lack of access to electricity, i.e. low electrification ratio. The island of Papua is largely mountainous and majority of the island is covered with heavy tropical rainforest. Consisting of a few different tribes, most of these tribe’s lives in different locations in remote and isolated highlands, making this Indonesia’s largest island is sparsely populated.
In the initial stage, the company, PT Selaras Daya Utama, identified an educational institution that is active in providing world-class education in Papua, especially the tribes located in remote and isolated areas in the Highlands. After signing an agreement to collaborate with YPPH, the company sent a technical team to gather the information needed to design the Solar Power solution by surveying the sites and understanding the required electricity load pattern for the schools and clinics.
The decision to empower the local Papuans as part of the construction team was one of the most innovative approaches in the projects resulting in multiple benefits, from increasing the confidence of the local people in the technology and its Operation and Maintenance aspects. On top of this, this innovation also save significant amount of project expenses since sending full-team from the main island of Java to Papua would have increased the project budget by at least 30 (thirty) percent
