Energy Globe Award

With more than 187 participating countries and over 2000 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy or utilize renewable or emission-free sources. Award ceremonies are held all over the world. Prominent personalities as well as Energy Globe Ambassadors in 90 countries support the mission of Energy Globe. The activities of Energy Globe attract worldwide media attention - international TV stations report each year with approximately 1,000 hours of broadcasting time. The aim of the Energy Globe is to raise global attention on sustainable, everywhere applicable environmental solutions and to motivate people to also become active in this area.

GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK – COPENHAGEN TOWERS

The Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers have been constructed with sustainability at the forefront. The objective being, to construct a building which goes far beyond the requirements and demonstrates innovative approaches to sustainability in architecture. Extensive efforts have been employed to ensure the highest possible degree of sustainability in the construction and well as the functioning of the building.

Initial situation
According to the OECD, the construction sector accounts for 33-50 % of all commodity flows in terms of weight. Traditionally, these large amounts of commodities generate substantial amount of waste, as well. There is a pressing global need to shift mindsets into seeing waste as resources and the construction of the Copenhagen Towers leans into that mindset. Simultaneously, the city of Copenhagen has set a goal of becoming the first CO2 neutral capital in the world by 2025.

Solution
The objective of building the Copenhagen Towers has been to build one of the most sustainable hotels in the world and link it to sustainability and profitability. The green profile of the Copenhagen Towers attracts and retains guests while also proving to be very valuable for communication purposes. As such, sustainability works to enhance the brand. Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage system utilizes ground water to cool guest rooms during summer. Excess heat rejected in this process is utilized during winter to heat rooms.

Innovation
The Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers were constructed with sustainability at the forefront. The objective was to construct a building which went far beyond the requirements and demonstrated innovative approaches to sustainability in architecture.
