National ENERGY GLOBE Award 2016

Environmental heroes

Environmental education has been introduced as a new subject in schools which means that it will take some time until the children will internalize the importance to protect the environment and to spread this thought in their surroundings. To shorten the time for the population to become aware of the need to care for their planet, Laura Lang from the Association Energia Solar Ocidental-Asfor launched an educational game for children. Education of children and young people and raising their awareness is the key to modify habits and daily actions. Many kids nowadays learn by playing, especially by means of technology. Most of the main options though that are available are games that promote violence and hate. The challenge was therefore to create an interesting game that would entertain kids while also teaching them useful environmental actions. Big companies from different sectors were involved to sponsor this idea and to fund the development of the game. At the same time, money was raised to finance the planting of 721 trees in the Tenorio Miravalles corridor in the north of the country. Since the launch of the game, it has been downloaded more than 10,000 times, addressing kids between 6 and 12 years and encouraging them to become environmental heroes.
