With more than 187 participating countries and over 2000 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy or utilize renewable or emission-free sources. Award ceremonies are held all over the world. Prominent personalities as well as Energy Globe Ambassadors in 90 countries support the mission of Energy Globe. The activities of Energy Globe attract worldwide media attention - international TV stations report each year with approximately 1,000 hours of broadcasting time. National ENERGY GLOBE Award Bulgaria 2019

Submitted by: Svilengrad Municipality
Waste water treatment plant, water supply and sewerage network in the City of Svilengrad.

The project is implemented by Svilengrad Municipality and the investments under this project are designed for the construction of the wastewater treatment infrastructure in the City of Svilengrad/WWTP/, the sewerage infrastructure and the accompanying water supply infrastructure.

Initial situation
There is no sewerage network in the Kapitan Petko Voyvoda Neighborhood in the City of Svilengrad. The existing water supply network is made from of asbestos-cement pipes, which often leads to failures and degrade the quality of the drinking water. A large number of septic tanks are also used within the boundaries of the municipality, the seepage of which threatens the purity of the groundwater.

In three neighborhoods of the City of Svilengrad, Kapitan Petko Voyvoda, Gebran and Izgrev, reconstruction, and completion of the water supply and sewerage networks, as well as reconstruction of the existing sewerage pumping station were carried out. This resulted in a higher quality of the wastewater infrastructure on the territory of the city, and the inclusion of these networks to the Waste Water Treatment Plant envisaged in the project, will lead to the ecological treatment of the waste waters from the territory of the agglomeration.

A Waste Water Treatment Plant with the technological scheme for biological treatment in SBR reactors was adopted. This technology has made it is possible to combine the functions of bio basin and secondary settling basin within one facility. The switching of the individual cycles in the reactor is smooth and depends on the filling level, which achieves optimal energy consumption at the constant quality of the treated wastewater. The SBR reactors work successively depending on the filling level and can always absorb their respective water capacity.
