Energy Globe Award

With more than 187 participating countries and over 2000 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy or utilize renewable or emission-free sources. Award ceremonies are held all over the world. Prominent personalities as well as Energy Globe Ambassadors in 90 countries support the mission of Energy Globe. The activities of Energy Globe attract worldwide media attention - international TV stations report each year with approximately 1,000 hours of broadcasting time. The aim of the Energy Globe is to raise global attention on sustainable, everywhere applicable environmental solutions and to motivate people to also become active in this area.

The Hybrid Center Bahamas– Green My Generation

German companies SUNfarming and Bioltec have developed a training and demonstration center for renewable energies, energy efficiency and sustainable mobility for the Bahamas - The Hybrid Center Bahamas. Partners are 700 Island Energy and Windsor High School. The Hybrid Center Bahamas is installed at the Windsor High School at Albany, Nassau.

Initial situation
The Windsor School imports all of their food for the student’s cafeteria from outside the country. More than 80% of the Nation of the Bahamas does the same due to a systemic failure in agricultural development and incentives. The Windsor school is provided energy from the national power grid which receives electricity generated from large diesel engines consuming blends of fuel oil and diesel fuel. The school pays almost $0.30 cents per kWh and more than three times the United States price for vegetables.

Solution
SUNfarmings Solar-Greenhouses and Bioltecs cogeneration based on vegetable fuels are being teamed up as a hybrid system together with sustainable mobility and local water saving food production to showcase a realistic approach towards the Global Goals. This is the technological basis for demonstration, capacity building, research & development and transfer of technology in the project Hybrid Center Bahamas.

Innovation
SUNfarming Food & Energy is the combination of high quality photovoltaic (PV) technology and food production facilities. SUNfarming (SF) has developed a unique solar PV greenhouse construction and modified free-field PV systems, which is used to produce electricity and grow crops on the same land area in an efficient way.
