Title: Implementing village hybrid grids to improve rural livelihoods
Laos has a predominantly rural population, living in small dispersed communities, making electrification very challenging. Decentralised off-grid solutions are perceived as a promising answer. The handicap is compensated by huge potential for small-scale hydropower, thanks to numerous rivers and streams. However in the dry season, this needs to be supplemented by other energy sources in order to meet the population’s needs for electricity. Sunlabob has successfully piloted a village hybrid grid and is now looking to conduct further tests to prove that the operational model is viable and can even bring about environmental, social and economic progress.
