National ENERGY GLOBE Award Albania 2019
Roadways are often affected by heavy rainfall which constantly washes away the existing stone, making it difficult for vehicles to move on the road. EcoGrid’s E50 ground stabilization and retention grid system not only acted as retention for stone, eliminating stone loss but reduced ground erosion whilst also allowing rainwater to replenish the natural water table through the fully permeable surface structure. The grid system is made from 100% recycled plastics and is manufactured with a zero carbon footprint which coupled with its ease of installation contributed to a highly effective sustainable surfacing solution
Heavy rainfalls were constantly washing away existing stones on the roadway to the Ministry of Defense, Albania, leaving it in dire need maintenance and repair. Minimal ground preparation was required before the Ecogrid product was laid over a short 4 day period from start to finish with an average of 150sqm of the grid being laid per man per day.
The system is a simple high loading permeable, interlocking ground reinforcement system that assists in the management of flood/rainwater. EcoGrid's E50 ground stabilization and retention grid system not only acts as retention for stones, eliminates stone loss, but reduced ground erosion whilst also allowing rainwater to replenish the natural water table through the fully permeable surface structure. The technology is within the design of the EcoGrid which is tested to withstand up to 1000 tones when loaded and has a unique and innovative locking system that sets the grid above any other grid system
The grid system is made from 100% recycled plastics and is manufactured with a zero carbon footprint which coupled with its ease of installation contributed to a highly effective sustainable surfacing solution for the roadway in Albania. In addition, the grid design itself with its unique locking system and unrivaled accessories allows for greater design potential such as curving pieces to allow for curve creation.
