With more than 170 participating countries and over 1500 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy or utilize renewable or emission-free sources. Award ceremonies are held all over the world. Prominent personalities as well as Energy Globe Ambassadors in 90 countries support the mission of Energy Globe. The activities of Energy Globe attract worldwide media attention - international TV stations report each year with approximately 1,000 hours of broadcasting time. National ENERGY GLOBE Award Turkey 2016
Clean water scarcity or lack of safe drinking water is among the world's leading problems to be faced by rural societies and the world in the 21st century. This critically important problem affects more than 1 billion people globally, meaning that one in every six people lacks access to safe drinking water. Every day in rural communities and poor urban centers, hundreds of millions people suffer from a lack of access to clean, copious supply of water for drinking, cooking, bathing, cleaning, etc. Both adults and children walk long distances about 3 to 4 kilometers daily, wait for the long queues at the point of taps and carry heavy containers on their heads, 20 to 25 liters per trip. Besides these challenges, 1.8 million people die every year from contaminated waterborne diseases, including 90% of children under 5. As this situation is no longer bearable, different types of water purification systems have been developed around the world to cope with this important issue. However, they have some disadvantages like they can introduce harmful carcinogenic elements into the drinking water supply that can become toxic over time and have unpleasant or dangerous side effects. Most of them just remove biological threats such as bacteria instead of chemical and radioactive contamination and they produce lower quality water. Parabosol Water Cleaning Unit was developed as an innovative solution towards rural water supply to amplify the voices of rural communities who suffer from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation which is a basic human right. Parabosol is basically a solar powered water treatment system, a portable water treatment unit which can be set up anywhere in remote areas. This system achieves purifying water by using a parabolic mirror which boils water at a high temperature. The purpose of the parabolic mirror is to collect the sun's energy over as wide an area as possible and focus into a smaller area. With its simple parts, production of the system is quite easy. In addition, it is rugged and when it is not in use as a compact closed unit, it protects its own parts from any damages. The system does not require any technology that can make it high-priced and make its maintenance difficult. Its installation and use require a little training but as it is a quite easy task to install the system, it will not affect the motivation of a group of interest in a negative way. A simple demo try with a trainer is enough. Two people are needed to install the system. All they have to do is to open the system and place the right containers in their right places to make the system work properly. To avoid any mistakes in placing the containers, contaminated and clean water containers are coded with different colors.
