National ENERGY GLOBE Award Portugal 2017
Creating and maintaining responsible behaviors for all actors of each institution, improving the environmental, social and economic aspects by defining specific work plans without an end date.
Several plans to raise the awareness of this important topic failed because there was no continuity, projects often had timetables and lasted only for one (school-) year. The waste that was sent from partner institutions raised the awareness of problems concerning waste treatment and disposal that each institution was having. The condition of the environment reveals the urgency of an improvement of the situation.
A big advantage of this project is the undefined ending that allows more fluid work reducing time pressure and making sure the institution maintains and consolidates their good practices.
There are 177 institutions implementing this long-term project including schools, social centers, study centers, cerebral palsy associations and a musical school. Future plans include adaptability to all types of institution. Transversality, duration and applicability are considered the 3 main points this project wants to offer.
Raising the awareness of environmental pollution and offering work plans will help preserve the planet and reduce the amount of waste for the future. Implementing such projects into educational contexts will help significantly to increase responsible behavior of children. Convincing the youngest will make the biggest difference!
