In detail:

Prague, 6th October 2014

The ecological Oscar has been awarded

The most highly regarded competition in the Czech Republic in the field of energy savings and environmental protection, the E.ON Energy Globe Award Czech Republic, has a winner. On Monday 6th October at the Vinohrady Theatre, an international expert jury awarded prizes to the best “heads full of eco-ideas” for the sixth time. Spectators in the theatre voted for the overall winner, which was the Ukliďme Česko project (Let’s Clean Up the Czech Republic) from the “DIY” category.

This year’s winner, the Ekosmák Association, thought up a unique voluntary clean-up event called “Ukliďme Česko” (Let’s Clean Up the Czech Republic). The goal of this project was to map and primarily actually remove illegal dumps and clean up small items of waste in the countryside and municipal areas. The event took place on 17th May 2014 and was based on the internationally tried and tested “Let’s Do It!” model. A total of 6,200 volunteers took part in the project at 290 sites all over the Czech Republic. More information is available at www.uklidmecesko.cz

“Of course we are very pleased with our win. We realised this clean-up event for the first time this year in the Czech Republic and we would like to establish a tradition of annual countrywide clean-up events. We believe that winning this prestigious competition will help us in our efforts,” fresh holder of the ecological Oscar for 2014, Miroslav Kubásek, organiser of the “Ukliďme Česko” project shared his first impressions.

The winners of all the competition categories were announced during the gala evening. The winner of the “DIY” category was the “Ukliďme Česko” project, the passive apartment building for seniors in Modřice won the “Municipality” category, the “Firm” category was won by the PURGAZ 50 project – innovative technology for producing bio-methane and the AIR House project was the winner of the “Youth” category.

A winning project in the “Idea” category, in which projects that have not yet been realised are judged, was also announced for the first time this year. The project of bladeless Setur turbine was the category winner this year. This project concerns a special small turbine, which can be used in areas with a smaller water-flow, where application of ordinary turbines is not possible. The E.ON Company will provide the submitter of this project with assistance in realising a pilot project.

Rising quality and 242 registered projects
“Throughout its duration, the Energy Globe project has become a unique platform for obtaining new knowledge and for mutual inspiration in the field of economic energy use, which is evidenced by the increasing number of registered projects. This year we received an impressive two hundred and forty two applications and, in the opinion of the expert jury, project quality is also increasing, as well as interest by partners in supporting this initiative,“ Michael Fehn, chairman of the Board of Directors of E.ON Czech Holding AG, said.

The overall winner received a low-energy building
The overall winner, the Ukliďme Česko project, received a roughly completed low-energy building – a timber structure using the Legopan 108 Saint-Gobain system valued at CZK 1.1 mil. and an air-water aroTHERM heat-pump by the  Vaillant Company. Prizes were awarded not only to the winners of individual categories, but also to a “Sympathy” project, which was chosen by the general public by means of internet and SMS voting. The “Ukliďme Česko project” (Let’s Clean Up the Czech Republic), which was submitted by the Ekosmák Association, also won the most popular project category. This project was also awarded the ecological Oscar in the “DIY” category.

The winner will represent the Czech Republic during the international finals of this competition
The winning project will advance among the projects nominated for the international Energy Globe World Award competition, which is the most important award in the world in the field of environmental protection. This competition was established in Austria in 1999 by Wolfgang Neumann, who has devoted his activities to the field of energy savings for over a quarter of a century.
