Nominee:
World Energy Globe Award

Submitted by: Nedap Power Supplies
Implemented country: Netherlands
Title: Sweet water for everyone

The Dutch company NEDAP has created a sunny system to clean water, especially for use in remote areas of developing countries, which suffer from an acute shortage of clean drinking water. The "Naïade System" is a mobile water purification unit powered by solar energy weighing 44 kg and has a daily average capacity of 2000 liters drinking water. Approximately 250 to 300 people can be provided with cheap and safe drinking water. Costs: 1 EURO per person, per year. There are no negative impacts on the environment and no use of chemicals to disinfect the water. The unit consists of a solar panel, a power supply unit, a reactor with UV lamp, a water container of 120 liters and filters and can be serviced locally.
