Title: Largest thermal solar plant in Austria
The residential area Berlinerring in Graz (Austria) consists of 25 buildings with 756 apartments. In 2003 the decision was made to renovate the buildings and to upgrade to renewable energy in combination with regional heating for hot water and heating. The roofs of six buildings were equipped with 2446 m² of solar collectors for the largest solar system in Austria. This system supplies the local heating needs and also feeds excess heat in the summer into the city regional heating network (secondary network). Annually the system delivers 1 GWh of heat and saves up to 150,000 liters of oil and avoids 470 tons of CO2 emissions.
