Title: Climate-friendly education at passive-house middle school in Brixlegg

The new construction of the middle school in Brixlegg (Tyrol, Austria), completed in February 2007, was designed with today’s passive house construction in mind. The highly insulated building shell with passive-house windows and a central ventilation unit with heat recovery ensures fulfillment of the heating requirement of less than 15 kwh/m²/a for the German passive house standard. The heart of the sustainable cubic building is a large hall that is lighted from above and connects all three stories. A 200 m² solar collector facility provides most of the required heat for transition periods and also supplies the public outdoor swimming pool.
