Title: Collectively & environmentally mobile with Virgenmobile
The Virgenmobile is an auto with a chauffeur that is available to citizens of Virgen (Tyrol, Austria) from Monday to Friday. Twenty volunteers serve as chauffeurs for an average of 17 persons per day, whereby a contribution of €1 per ride covers the costs and CO2 emissions for 10,140 km annually can be avoided. The guiding idea was to create an environmentally friendly mobility service in the town of 2000 residents since public transportation covers only a small portion of the demand. Pickup and delivery service in the town, e.g., for a doctor’s visit or the local grocery store, should now be provided in groups rather than individually and should increase mobility especially for older persons and persons without automobiles.
