Title: SOWARLA technology employs solar power in waste water treatment

In a pilot project KACO Gerätetechnik GmbH, Hirschmann Laborgeräte GmbH and the German Aerospace Center jointly developed a photocatalytic water treatment plant that is suited for pretreatment as well as comprehensive treatment of organically and inorganically polluted water. Even waste water for which conventional water treatment reaches the limits of its capability can be purified. The process energy for this innovative and low-maintenance cleansing process comes exclusively from sunlight, which brings significant cost advantages in terms of salaries and chemicals. The photocatalytic and solar operation saves 80-90% or, with the use of a photovoltaic system, 100% of electrical energy costs. Pilot operation removed such pollution sources as cyanide, nitrite and hydrazine derivates from biologically untreated water. A plant for treating waste water is already in test operation in an outdoor pool, and the SOWARLA technology proves adaptable to very different applications and problem materials.
