Title: Benchmarking and Energy Management Schemes in SMEs
BESS (Benchmarking and Energy management Schemes in SMEs, small and medium-sized enterprises) covers three aspects: energy management, monitoring and benchmarking. Practical experience shows that the combination of energy management and benchmarking is an approach that appeals to many companies and relates closely to quality systems such as ISO 9000, ISO 14000 and HACCP (food safety). In cooperation with companies, industrial associations and consultants, the consortium partners have developed a package of instruments that can be used to implement or improve energy management, monitoring and benchmarking. The instruments are based on and selected from the most successful programs and best practices from all the countries that participate in BESS. This synergy is the main driving power of the BESS project. The instruments have been testing in about 60 industrial SMEs since spring 2006.
