Title: Climate Seeks Protection in Germany

840 million tons of CO2 is emitted every year in Germany. One in seven tons is caused by private homes through heating and power consumption. Modern technology can halve this annual CO2 production without raising the costs. The campaign “Climate Seeks Protection” motivates private households to lower their energy consumption and become an active partner in climate protection. The nonprofit consulting firm co2online Gmbh advised this campaign, initiated 2004 and supported by the Federal Environment Ministry, by tracking a dialog-based strategy: Interactive energy-saving advisers inform about savings strategies, heating expertise, a climate-quiz for children and young people, accompanying press reports and a network with over 700 partners support the whole campaign. Conventional advertising efforts are not used. Current evaluations document that nearly 1 million tons CO2 was saved and local industry saved nearly € 350 million through recommended modernizations.
