Title: Solar Fun at Schools Promotes Solar Projects
The primary objective of the project Solar Fun at Schools aims to initiate solar projects in schools and so to account for the protection of the climate and for future’s energy supply. At the same time it wants to enhance the topic of solar energy clearly in classes and educational institutions. Solar-Fun at Schools operates as a catalyst for solar projects across subject and age group lines. Education based on reality and living solar techniques motivate pupils and teachers to not just think environmentally but to act concretely in terms of Agenda21 and the UN Decade for Sustainable Education. In autumn 2005 the project was accepted as an official contribution to the UN Decade of Sustainable Education. In Lower Saxony 24 schools applied for the competition. In these projects solar systems with a total power of 150 kWp were installed. They can produce about 125,000 kWh of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide by 70 tons.
