Title: Parque Ecologico Nueva Juventud in Guatemala serves as environmental education center, ecological park and wildlife reserve
Located one mile north of San Andrès (Guatemala), the Parque Ecologico Nueva Juventud is a 150-acre public reserve managed by Volunteer Petèn. Given the size of the park and its proximity to San Andrès and other towns, its main purpose is education and it serves as an outdoor classroom for local students where they can learn about forest management, ecological reserves, and the flora and fauna of Guatemala. Our project goals are to: •reinforce the infrastructure of the park; •reforest the park and surrounding areas with guano palm trees to re-establish their population; •strengthen our environmental education programs in an ecological park; •strengthen our international volunteer program to help sustain the economic costs of park management.
