Title: Return on energy efficiency investments in Romania
Between 2003 and 2006 the United Nations Development Programme and the Global Environment Facility ran a successful project to persuade Romanian energy consumers to identify and act upon energy efficiency investment opportunities, and demonstrated this by leveraging real investments during the lifetime of the project. The project team applied the simple principle that a small investment by UNDP/GEF (in the form of technical assistance or direct contribution of equipment) should help to leverage a very much larger investment in energy efficiency. By the end of the project the targets were substantially exceeded.
