Title: School energy education project in Oxfordshire, UK

The Atkins School Energy Education Project encourages energy efficiency through a behavioural approach in school. Since 2003 the project has worked with 60 schools in Oxfordshire. Funded by the Oxfordshire County Council, the project raises awareness and increases pupils’ ownership and inclusion in the management of energy in their school. The pupils are engaged in many of the environmental issues surrounding energy and as a result develop skills and an interest in energy issues for life. Schools achieve average energy savings of 14% compared to before the project. The important energy saving message is taken into homes and the community by the work of the school and via community energy days.
