Title: Biological Gas project in Vietnam
The project aims at developing a commercially viable and market oriented biological gas system and at the same time contributing to limiting the use of fossil fuels and biomass resource depletion. Phase I of the project was implemented from 2003 to 2005 and 18,000 household-biologic gas-plants were built, resulting in a reduction in CO2 of 36,000 to 54,000 tons annually. The project is will increase its implementation area to over 50 of the 64 provinces nationwide with 150,000 plants to be built in project phase II (2006-2010). The project assists in improving rural conditions by improving the health situation through the reduction of indoor air pollution, smell, improved toilet and stable facilities. The project also makes a contribution to the National Strategy of Environment Protection by encouraging the use of efficient energy technology in households and improving the waste management systems for small farms.
