Title: BP Strives to Reduce CO2 Emissions
As one of the major energy suppliers, British Petroleum is also responsible for leading in searching for solutions to the climate problem and implementing them. BP was the first major energy company to admit publicly that measures against climate change have to be implemented and obliged itself to reduce its emissions. In 2004 BP invested US$ 350 billion in a 5-year program for reduction of emissions to avoid another billion tons of CO2 annually. Worldwide BP is among the biggest investors in low-carbon energy sources and technologies. The emission of greenhouse gases from our own sites was 81.7 billion tons of CO2 in 2004. Since 2001 about the half of our net emission growth (7 billion tons) was compensated by sustainable efficiency projects.
