Title: National Green Award Program in Ethiopia
The Green Award project is envisaged to serve as a tool for environmental advocacy in the country, thereby encouraging environmental awareness and action on the part of citizens. Awards are presented in two steps, at regional and national levels, with four categories for the regional and five categories for the national awards. The project encompasses the whole of Ethiopia and applications are received from every corner of the country through focal points that are established in the regional capitals for this purpose. Screening and selection is undertaken by Green Award Committees, comprising environmental activists and representatives of major stakeholder institutions. The project has a three-year duration and will cost about Birr 500,000 financed by the Swedish SIDA through the Sustainable Land Use Forum (SLUF).
