Title: Sustainable Drinking Water Production from Low-Quality Ground Water
In this proposal Vitens aims to demonstrate a new technology that enables water purification using low-quality ground water sources. In this way a flexible ground water management system can be attained offering an optimal balance between nature preservation, consumer satisfaction, processing costs and sustainable production. After intensive laboratory and pilot research, Vitens has conducted a demonstration on an industrial scale in Oldeholtpade; this pilot was so successful that the method of “bleaching” drinking water will also be used at other production sites. The new equipment has been installed and operational since April 2004. Up to now the resulting drinking water qualities got even better than foreseen. The innovative process can be operated continuously and is much more sustainable than alternative technologies currently available.
