Title: Reducing Water Pollution and Enhancing Biodiversity of Bovilla Watershed
The Bovilla reservoir was artificially constructed at the end of last century to serve the drinking water supply of Tirana. In recent years the water users have complained about the bad quality and smell of the water. This pollution is thought to be due to the uncontrolled economic activities of the community, soil erosion and wastewater of the surrounding villages. The project’s goal is to reduce drinking water pollution and to demonstrate a sustainable technical model for eroded upland rehabilitation and management in Bovilla Watershed through combined measures: reforestation, check-dam installation, erection of fences against erosion, and seeding.
