Title: Vienna’s passive house project sets new European standards in subsidized housing
The construction project in Vienna, Austria, was developed in a design contest hosted by the developer BAI GmbH in collaboration with KHL Massivholz GmbH (solid wood construction) and the architects Dietrich & Untertrifaller. The multiple-level subsidized apartment building encompasses 70 units (200 residents). The solid wood construction implements the passive house standard. In addition, the limit for overall costs for subsidized housing was observed in combination with utmost ecological and sustainable project strategy. These requirements had not yet been implemented to this degree anywhere in Europe. Innovative features include the testing of vacuum insulation and the utilization of industrially prefabricated structural elements including façade.
