Title: Switching off appliances on standby to save energy in UK
Switch It Off (SIO) was a campaign covering Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Coventry (UK) and consisting of a family challenge, an art competition for schools, a council challenge and a big SIO day. With a budget of just £5000, Warwickshire County Council worked with public and private sector partners to persuade thousands of people to stop leaving appliances on standby. The aim of SIO was to highlight just how much energy is wasted and how much carbon dioxide is emitted when things are left on when they are not needed. During a big SIO day, consumption across the area was monitored; in comparison with data from the previous week there was an 8% drop.
