Title: Innovative technology for treatment and recycling of industrial wastewater in India
The project focuses on the development of innovative technology for the treatment and recycling of a very difficult wastewater problem, molasses-based ethanol distillery effluent. India has about 285 molasses-based distilleries that produce 2.7 billion liters of alcohol and the accompanying 40 billion liters of distillery effluent annually. Clearly the distillery industry is a pollution-intensive operation. The effluent has a very high organic load and a dark brown color. The company has developed an environmentally friendly process for the complete treatment of distillery effluents. A pilot plant based on the newly developed process has been in operation for the past year.
