Title: Energy-autonomous homes
At Carinthia’s Weissensee (a lake in southern Austria) a subsidized research project is constructing the first in a line of House of the Future in 2008. The result will be the first floating and rotating passive house worldwide, which will handle energy production as well as water supply and treatment. Beyond a conservational approach to resources, the tasks include minimizing consumption and thus avoiding central, expensive supply and disposal plants. Further, a simple rotational mechanism will be developed to allow the building to follow the sun or to control shading against the sun. An absolute criterion is that the novel building materials must be produced economically and be financially affordable for anyone.
