Title: A Solar Tracker Model for Traffic-Light Systems
The design and construction of a solar tracker model to power a traffic light system demonstrated great advantages such as better performance, more reliability and cost effectiveness in comparison to conventional grid-powered systems. The new model consists of an LED-controlled sensor mounted on a photovoltaic (PV) module rack with a rotational axis from east to west. The characteristics of a PV module mounted on solar tracker and one not so mounted were obtained for 5 days. The result of the test showed that the solar tracker system enables improved efficiency of 21.42%. Due to an integrated, permanently loaded battery, the PV modules’ size can be kept small. This project can solve the problem of inadequate power supply to traffic light system at major junctions in developing countries if adopted.
