Title: New Waste Management System as Multifunctional Solution in Philippines
Beautiful and fashionable bags are created from strips of old and used tarpaulins, the sturdy non-biodegradable material used for streamers and billboards. Tarps collected weekly are converted to hand-woven fashion treasures. The further processing of tarps provides a solution for the challenge of reducing solid waste and air pollution. The project aims not only to save the environment but to improve social aspects. Training is provided to unemployed youth in order to give them a chance to find work and to maintain manual weaving techniques of the Filipino culture. This is a creative possibility to help in preventing waste, air pollution, unemployment, production energy and loss of cultural awareness.
