Title: Mositi Vanuaso project – A Community-Based Resource Management Initiative
Vanuaso Tikina, Gau Island (Fiji Group), is predominantly in its pristine condition. The people are involved in subsistence activities but are continuously being lured into commercial agriculture, timber milling, deforestation, alterations to costal habitats, coastal pollution and destructive fishing methods. Through this project the people were empowered to improve their living standards and ensured that the resources were used sustainably, so that they will be available for future generations. Therefore the villagers are now able to make decisions related to their requirements that are holistic and consistent with known sustainable development practices.
