Title: Education for Girls in Bangladesh
Women still are disadvantaged in their families and in public life. A profound gender gap exists especially regarding educational opportunity. In Bangladesh more than 60% of men between 14 and 25 years obtain a basic education; among women the figure is only 40%. Through financial stress and a high dowry, girls will be married at a young age and therefore hardly have the chance to take part on public life. For this reason the local organization Sabalamby Unnayan Samity (SUS) supports the education of girls from poor families. Such education of girls will be enhanced step by step to give young women the chance live in self-determination.
