Title: Solar Cells to Run a Water Pump
Approximately 50,000 persons of the Pokot herder tribe reside in the mountainous, arid area of Karapokot in East Kenya. The depressing living conditions of the herders are to be improved by constructing kindergartens, schools and water dams. In three schools, attended by 324 pupils, there are wells run by old diesel pumps that must be fully reconditioned, repaired or exchanged. The use of solar pumps is more economical and environmentally friendly. Therefore there are plans to buy and construct eight solar panels to run these pumps.
