Title: Solar Power for Rural Areas in Nepal
Society for Women Guidelines Nepal (Swogun) is a small non-profit organization established in 1999. The primary mission is to improve the living standards of impoverished communities located in remote areas of Nepal. Through several training programs, local people are provided with equipment and skills allowing them to create an income on their own. The Solar Aid program especially supplies schools, libraries, Buddhist monasteries, health posts and community groups with electricity. The installed environmentally friendly solar energy systems help to improve the quality of life and allow people to manufacture handicrafts in their own leisure during daytime as well as at night. Further interests of the organization include the implementation of modified smokeless stoves for rural areas and encouragement for more environmental awareness.
