Title: Modern Stoves Improve Living and Protect Environment in Bolivia
A significant percentage of the world’s population use biomass for their daily domestic activities. In Bolivia, 80% of rural households use biomass for cooking. Human health complications, environmental degradation and economic implications are part of the negative effects related to the use of inefficient energy technologies. This project seeks to improve the living conditions of rural families through the dissemination of improved wood and solar stoves in order to avoid smoke emissions and decrease the quantity of biomass used for cooking in some 10,000 households and 1000 social institutions. Both partial subsidies and technical assistance are provided to the households. Through the projects actions, the use of firewood will be reduced up to 40% and the risk of diseases and accidents will be nearly eliminated. Additionally, the support of a sustainable stove market will stimulate commercialization and economic factors.
