Title: Wastewater treatment plant with continuous bio-filtration in Macedonia
The innovative aspect of the new wastewater treatment plant is that the process occurs continuously via bio-filters under psichrophylic conditions (below 25°C) without electricity. The plant realizes three major goals: • saves a large amount of electrical energy, thus protecting the environment; • purifies wastewater and so protects surface waters; • produces biogas with a very high concentration of methane (87%) fuel. The bio-filter was constructed by the author in 1982. The first anaerobic station was put into operation in 1998 near Skopje. The innovation is patented and has won awards.
