Title: Training program for environmental monitoring toward sustainable management of natural resources and biodiversity in rural highlands
The goal of the project was to actively involve the community in the local sustainable development process that has been underway since 1996 in Cotahuasi (Peru). This project is based on sustainable utilization of natural resources and biodiversity through the realization of bio-trade. For this purpose, an environmental monitoring program was developed that is part of the curriculum at six secondary schools. The project involves 1200 students in research and nature conservation activities. In addition, the cultural identity is enhanced and great importance is vested in handed-down knowledge, while information and communication technologies are employed.
