Title: Kyeitembe Farmers Association Biogas Youth Project in Uganda
Rising human expectations coupled with population explosion have resulted in severe environmental problems in Uganda: scarcity of water and deterioration of water quality due to human use, rapidly rising energy consumption due to industrialization and household demand, widespread use of chemicals, greenhouse gas emissions, improper waste treatment, and depletion of natural resources. The project has installed 120 quality-controlled small biogas plants in Kyeitembe village to displace traditional sources of energy (wood and kerosene) and provide proper treatment of waste. Each plant saves the equivalent of 4.6 tons of CO2 equivalent annually and brings energy to poor rural households.
