Title: Solar lamps for African school children
Since 2000 the association School Forests for West Africa has been supporting north-south school partnerships through reforestation projects in west African schools to prevent further destruction of the rain forest. In Ghana the association works with some 72 schools and, supported by German partner schools, for reforestation of the rain forest and especially for replanting of schoolyards. In February 2007 solar lights were introduced into the project in order to motivate school children in Ghana to participate in the school forest project according to the motto "Planting trees for solar lamps". The project strives to raise consciousness among the school children concerning the value of the rain forest and to improve living conditions with the practical application of the lights.
