Title: Energy savings through innovative solar concept in renovation of dormitory in Graz
The engineering office of Bernhard Hammer developed a unique solar concept for the renovation of the Friedrich Schiller Dormitory. The idea for this project emerged in the spring of 2006 and was successfully implemented within 1.5 years. 187 m² of collectors were mounted to the façade via a steel structure on the 9th floor of the building. The exceptional concept saves 73,000 kWh of energy annually, which means a reduction of CO2 emissions by 144,430 kg in ten years. Furthermore, superfluous thermal energy in the amount of 25,000 kWh annually is fed into the in regional heating network.
